Sanford M. Jacoby (born 1953) is an American economic historian and labor economist, and Distinguished Professor of Management, History, and Public Policy at UCLA Anderson School of Management. Born in New York City, Jacoby received his AB in Economics in 1974 from the University of Pennsylvania and his PhD in Economics in 1981 from University of California, Berkeley.〔(Sanford M. Jacoby's CV ) at anderson.ucla.edu. Accessed 22.11.2014.〕
Jacoby started his academic career at the UCLA Anderson School of Management in 1980 as Assistant Professor,〔''(University Bulletin: A Weekly Bulletin for the Staff of the University of California ),'' Volume 31. Office of Official Publications, University of California, 1982. p. 36〕 and was appointed Howard Noble Distinguished Professor at UCLA Anderson School of Management in 2001.〔(UCLA Anderson School Professor Appointed to Endowed Chair ) by Kimberly Lisella, May 15, 2001. Accessed 22.11.2014.〕 He has been a visiting professor at the Doshisha University, London School of Economics, University of Manchester, University of Tokyo, and Waseda University. His research interests include the history of employer and labor market institutions, and the political economy of corporate governance, including Japan. 〔 He is co-editor of the ''Comparative Labor Law and Policy Journal''.
Jacoby has received a series of recognitions for his work, starting in 1982 with the Allan Nevins Prize from the Economic History Association.〔 In 1986 he received the George R. Terry Book Award of the Academy of Management, and in 1997 the Philip Taft Prize in Labor History. He has been elected fellow of the National Academy of Social Insurance in 1999, an Abe Fellow of the Japan Foundation and Social Science Research Council in 2000, John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in 2009, and Research Fellow, Labor & Employment Research Association in 2010.〔
